Residence Hall Association Holds Spring Semester Kick-Off Meeting

Important Upcoming Dates and Events for FTC Residents

By Samantha Viola

The first meeting of the Five Towns College Residence Hall Association of the spring semester took place on February 6th in the first-floor lounge of Rhapsody Hall. The meeting was run by Association advisor, Michael Cavalli. Residents from each of the four residence halls came to address their concerns and discuss the status of their different residence halls.

The association began the meeting by presenting their goals that were derived from the

spring semester’s training sessions held for student leaders. The Association’s primary goal is to ensure that every resident has a voice in the community and that their concerns are heard. The meeting then announced open positions for student residents to hold for the upcoming semester.

The positions that are open for residents to run for are President and Vice President of the Association, and committee member positions on the Campus Safety and the Residential Facilities Committees. Residents that attended the meeting were encouraged to think about running for open positions as well as inviting their friends to vote at the election meeting, which will be held on February 20th at 7pm in the Rhapsody Hall first floor lounge.

The meeting then progressed into the discussion of the Hall Olympics. The association

felt that the Winter Olympics were a success and a nice balance of competition and inclusiveness. Whether it was the Dodgeball Tournament or the Ultimate Smash Tournament, students enjoyed the event.

The floor was then opened for ideas for the Spring Olympics. Many different ideas were brought up by the Residence Hall Association members such as a manhunt tournament, Mario Kart, and scavenger hunts. However, plans for the Spring Hall Olympics have not been finalized. Students interested in the planning of the Residence Hall Olympics are encouraged to attend an RHA meeting in the future to get more information. The Spring Residence Hall Olympics will take place from April 22nd to April 25th.

The Residence Hall Association will be bringing back Town Hall Meetings this semester. The next meeting will be held on March 5th at 8pm in the Downbeat. “This is the time for people to bring their complaints and concerns about living on campus to us,” said club advisor Michael Cavalli. He encouraged association members to bring resident students to the meeting so that everyone’s voice can be heard.
